NTPC to light up 118 villages in Orissa

Bhubaneswar: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will provide 14.32 MW power to 118 villages located within 5 km radius of its two plants at Kaniha and Talcher in Orissa.

In an effort to provide electricity to villages under the Central Government scheme, an agreement was signed between the Orissa Government, the NTPC and The Central Electricity Supply Unit of Orissa Ltd (CESU).

The scheme will cover five blocks in Angul district- Kaniha, Talcher, Orapad, Barjang and Banarpali providing electricity to 1.4 lakh people including about 5068 BPL families around the Talcher Plant and 3318 BPL families around Kaniha.

As per the scheme, the Kaniha power plant would offer about 4.55 MW of power and the Talcher Thermal Power Station will provide 9.77 MW.

Under this project, two new 33 KV substations will be set up and 230 new phase-3 distribution transformers will be laid. The project will cost about 29.30 crores and will be commissioned within 12 months. The detailed project report has already been prepared by CESU.

The agreement was signed between G. Mathivathanan, State Energy Secretary, R. Venkateswaran, Regional Executive Director NTPC and B.C Jena, Chairman cum CEO of CESU in the presence of State Energy Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.
