mKrishi has already been launched in a few Maharashtra villages.
The system allows farmers to send queries to the agriculture experts and receive advice and personalised information on the mobile phone in their local language.
The farmers use camera equipped mobile phones and specialized software to click pictures of their crops and send to the experts. The experts receive and analyse the pictures using web technology and respond to the farmer through text message or voicemail.
mKrishi also provides weather reports to the farmers in those villages where they have set up the sensors apart from the information on crop and pesticides.
For mKrishi TCS uses an internally developed IVR (interactive voice response) type platform- packet interactive multimedia response (PIM2R)- which uses the inexpensive data channel for transferring rich content.
So far, mKrishi has benefited cotton, grapes, soya bean and potato farmers in four villages in Maharashtra.
