Washington: Patrick Pinhero, an associate professor in the Missouri University (MU) Chemical Engineering Department, is on his way to develop a flexible solar panel sheet that can absorb 95 per cent of the sunlight and could develop it into electricity.

Pinhero and his team have developed a thin, mouldable sheet of small antennas called nantenna – which can harvest the heat from industrial processes and convert it into usable electricity.

The sheet is able to absorb even the infra-red wavelengths of the sun and could convert it into electrical energy by the photovoltaic method.

The team has an ambition to extend the concept to a direct-solar-facing nantenna device capable of collecting solar irradiation in the near infrared and optical regions of the solar spectrum.

They aim to capture maximum solar energy and to convert it into electricity and bring in for commercial use.
