Migrant children in Gurgaon schools to get educational radio

Gurgaon: In a new initiative, a programme on community radio with mobile phones was launched in more than 45 government and NGO run schools in Gurgaon.

The aim of the programme is to reach out to the children of migrant community through community radio.

The initiative is being taken by Qualcomm and the non-profit Sesame Workshop India. The project includes 10 migrant families on an experimental basis.

The aim of the project is to provide the migrant children between the age of four to eight high quality educational radio content through mobile phones and integrating them through 3G platforms.

The development and broadcast of high quality educational radio content relevant to and reflecting community issues, especially those of marginalised section, enabling increased access of this content to communities through integration with a 3G enabled platform and an in-school programme that leverages the radio broadcast within school learning materials.

The families participating in the project will be provided with 3G-enabled mobile phones and 3G wireless connectivity free of cost. Using preloaded shortcut on the phones, families will be able to access community radio broadcasts and additional educational materials consisting of videos, songs, stories and other print materials.
