The Indian mobile operators claim that there are 85 crore mobile subscribers in the country. But, the survey figures say only 48.7 crore which is just 57 per cent of the projected figures.
Even the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) claims that 70 per cent of the subscribers can be considered as active as their phones were ‘switched on’ on the last day of June.
But at the same time, the survey conducted over 2 lakh subscribers in main states and Union Territories says that the penetration of the mobile in the country is only 34 per cent.
The survey also found that only 14.4 million, or 3.5 per cent of all mobile users, use their mobile phones for Internet surfing.
Almost 60 per cent of all Indian households have only one mobile. But due to the fact that many urban households have 3 or even more connections, the average number of phones per household for all India is 2.05.
The daily average talk time on ‘most used connection’ is up marginally at 24.7 minutes (from 23.5 minutes last year).
