The selected 22 Campus Ambassadors will promote Wikipedia as a tool for education across the country. These Ambassadors work as volunteers with the teachers to incorporate the elements of Wikipedia in education.
They support both students and teachers and provide classes during their courses and semesters.
The Wikipedia also provide teaching material and example lesson plans, expecting the professors to assign their students Wikipedia articles to write or improve, as part of the class.
The volunteers also train the students to edit articles related to their syllabus on Wikipedia.
Wikipedia chose Pune to be the first city to launch the programme outside the US because of the student population. More than two lakh youth are studying in various colleges in Pune.
