She aims at realizing her dream through women’s self help groups (SHGs) and micro – credits.
Nileema Mishra, said that there is a plan for 10,000 women SHGs in coming two years. Mishra believes SHGs are the road to development. She has faith in the power of the masses, thus involving villagers in her mission of self sustenance.
SHGs are a small group of rural people. They save regularly and contribute to the common fund and then use it to give small loans to the needy. SHGs and micro-credits help in relieving farmers of their hefty loans and help in education of the village children.
Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan started by Mishra in Bahadurpur in mid-1990s has set up 1800 women SHGs, 700 farmers SHGs and four domestic help SHGs. It has 30 lakh in micro-credit.
It also has a system to provide interest free loans to farmers of the village. It has also set up a godown to help women market and also supplies raw material to the local business of the villagers at wholesale rates. A damn project near the village in Bahadurpur is also on the cards.
Because of the effective work, Nileema Mishra has got numerous requests from several villages to help them achieve self sustenance. The third phase of the self sustenance plan is the mobilizing of the model of village development to other states in India which will require government’s help.
