Washington: Practicing yoga daily is beneficial for women with breast cancer undergoing radiation therapy, suggests a new study.

The study was conducted by researchers at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centre.

The study has shown that yoga helps in fighting fatigue and reduces stress and improves physical function.

The study was conducted on 163 women with an average age of 52 years with breast cancer. The participants were divided into three groups - those who attended yoga sessions, those who practiced simple stretching exercises and those who did neither.

During the study period, the participants were asked to report their quality of life, which included depression and spirituality.

The study researchers also collected saliva samples and conducted electrocardiogram tests on all participants at the start, and after one, three and six months.

At the end of study period it was found that women who practiced yoga were less fatigued as compared to the third group and showed sharpest decline in level of cortisol throughout the day.
