New Delhi:Â A research conducted by University of Melbourne stated that youths who listen continuously to heavy metal music are prone to show suicidal tendencies. Listening to heavy metal music can be a way of them to escape realms of realities.
A senior lecturer, Katrina McFerran said that if the behaviour continues then it is an indication that the child is suffering from anxiety and depression and in extreme case, suicidal tendencies.
The fact that due to availability of Mp3 Players, accessibility to music have increased a lot because of which they could be listening to music seven to eight hours a day. The research was conducted with 50 young people aged between 13 and 18 along with a national survey of 1000 young people.
Further studies and research are going to develop a model for early intervention that can be integrated into schools to impact positively before behavioural problems occur. Katrina added that parents should also be alert towards their behaviour and take early actions.
