Kolkata:17 infants have reportedly died in a Kolkata hospital in a span of 70 hours.

Parents of the deceased babies have alleged negligence on the part of the BC Roy Post-Graduate Institute of Paediatric Sciences. However, the hospital authorities maintain that most of the infants had been brought in a critical state, and hence were unable to be saved.

Parents have alleged that the treatment was slow. Though the last infant to die was a five day old girl on Wednesday, the infant's guardian stated that he had no complaint against the hospital.

Other parents however , claimed that decisions were being delayed. According to Superintendent DK Pal said 5-6 deaths a day are normal at the hospital. He states that patients are often brought in critical condition, and hence mortality is high.

Most of the babies that died were reportedly premature and were grossly underweight. Out of them only two were more than 3 months old.
