New Delhi: Mexico is set to adopt the model of the UPA Government’s scheme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to formulate welfare schemes for the poor.

Mexico will emulate the programme to uplift its rural poor. It will take the positives of the scheme to implement welfare programmes suiting their socio-geographical conditions.

Started in 2006, MGNREGS aims at providing employment and removing poverty.

It enhances the livelihood security of people in rural areas by guaranteeing hundred days of wage-employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
