“We are building the edifice of modern India on the foundation of the hard work and sacrifices of our soldiers, our farmers and our workers. We will not let their hard work and sacrifices go waste. We will convert the dreams of our freedom fighters into reality, said the PM in his speech.
The PM also said that it is the time to rise above our personal or political interests and build consensus on issues of national importance.
The PM also said that the government has strived for political stability and social and economic progress. And also has established an environment of communal harmony in the country.
The PM also mentioned the laws which guaranteed the people their basic entitlements like the rights to education, employment and information, etc. Also, he assured the enactment of Food Security Bill soon.
Observing that corruption has become rampant in the country, Dr. Singh said that the government will take strictest possible action against the corrupt.
Dr. Singh also touched upon various topics like inflation, Lokpal Bill, strengthening the physical infrastructure, developing the slums, addressing the issue of malnutrition in women and children, terrorist attacks etc.
