This came in wake of the need to protect other endangered species specific to states like lion and rhino.
It means that 20 per cent of the funds meant for wildlife conservation will have to be allocated for protection of state-specific endangered species.
Project Tiger was initiated in 1973 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to protect tigers. Main objectives under the scheme include wildlife management, protection measures and site specific eco development to reduce the dependency of local communities on tiger reserve resources.
Project Tiger, got more than Rs600 crore in the 11th plan.
