Increasing pollution level affecting Maharashtra lakes: Study

Mumbai: Urbanization and industrialization are posing threat to the fresh water bodies as the pollution level has increased tremendously, says a recent study.

The study conducted by environmental chemist Pravin Singare of Bhavan's College, Mumbai in the lakes in Thane and Maharashtra.

The study found that the byproducts of urbanization-waste from the industries, sewage and pesticides are posing threat to the lakes- Jail, Upavan, Masunda, Makhmali, Rewale and Kalwa.

These pesticides and sewage are creating much problem to the health of the people living nearby as it contains high levels of lead, cadmium, arsenic and manganese.
