Ahmedabad: The state education department will test the knowledge level and language skills of more than two lakh teachers in 42,000 primary schools.

The test will be conducted by the Gujarat Council of Education, Research and Training (GCERT) later this year.

The first of its kind test for the teachers in government-run schools will evaluate the knowledge, language skills and aptitude based on the syllabus of Class I to VIII.

A core committee has been formed to prepare the questions, paper-style and the weightage given to each subject.

The paper will have multiple-choice questions and the answer sheets will be evaluated using Optical Mark reader (OMR).

The government has yet to decide the incentives given to the teachers depending on their performance.
