Patna: Bihar Government made it compulsory for all the government and private schools to register under Right to Education Act (RTE).

The state has set November 12 as the last date to register under RTE and the district education officers are entrusted with the duty of getting the government schools registered.

Despite the mandatory 25 per cent quota for admission of underprivileged children in private schools under the RTE Act, only 3,500 children were enrolled in Class 1 so far. A sum of Rs 1.75 lakh has been allotted for the education of these enrolled children by the state.

RTE was implemented by the Indian government in April 2010. Under this bill every child in the age group of 6-14 years is entitled to 8 years of elementary school education in an age appropriate classroom in the vicinity of his/her neighbourhood, the cost of which has to be borne by the state government.
