Mumbai: The British Council has taken under its wing the training of 4 lakh teachers in English in Maharashtra.  It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state Government for the same. The training session is scheduled to kick off by October.

As an independent venture, British Council has tied up with English Language Teachers Association of India (ELTAI) to launch its first ever English Road show for tier II cities at Nagpur. The programme aims at conducting workshops for English teachers to help them improve their teaching skills.

The idea was to make the training facilities available to the teachers from tier II cities, usually; the outreach is limited to metro cities. Apart from 8 instructors from BC, 2 from ELTAI were also part of the workshop.

The staff at British Council is confident that they shall reach out to more and more teachers with every passing year and hope to reach 4000 this year. The fees are as nominal as Rs. 100 per teacher. They hope to reach out to tier III as well in the near future.
