Jaipur: After 2 long years of struggle, Rajasthan technical university finally allows differently abled students to get admission in the technical courses. So far, the AICTE norms and the state government rules didn't allow deaf and dumb students to take admissions in technical colleges.

"I strongly feel that they(differently abled students) also have an equal right to access technical education. Denying them on the grounds of disability would be injustice. It'd be like an unintended attempt to keep them away from education." Vice chancellor of RTU, Mr. R.P Yadav was quoted as saying. Though RTU won't be giving access to full time degree courses to such students for now but are considering short term courses for them. In Rajasthan, there are only a few institutes of higher education which provide courses for them.
The main reason for the denial so far has been the amount of money required to accommodate suitable facilities within the campus like teaching staff trained in sign language and various technical aids. India is trying to break these barriers.
