The initiative taken by the Indian Institute of Technology is expected to help in the development of entrepreneurship skills among the youth. The programme would provide specialized training to those enrolled in training program, and help in their internship giving needed industry exposure. The programme plans to cover 1000 students annually.
As per a research conducted in south India by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), 16.5 per cent of Dalits were employed in private firms. The State government is spending Rs. 25 crore on various training programmes for 20,000 Dalits, and Rs. 10 crore for BCs and MBCs, which will help students increase their understanding of business.
Out of the 300 applicants, 50 were selected from 50 colleges and a team of successful business persons, management trained facilitators and mentors will help the participants. Thirty entrepreneurs have been confirmed to take sessions and coach the selected applicants.
