New Delhi: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is organising camps for Dalits to create awareness about their legal rights. The camps are being organized to make the Dalit population in the country aware of their legal rights and thus empowering them.

Ahmedabad: While India has been widely recognized as a democratic country, many ancient evil practices refuse to die down. In Gujarat, the land of Gandhi, untouchability is still in practise as most of the Dalit Women in the Panchayats are ill-treated because of their cast.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has taken steps to encourage the young Dalit entrepreneurs and help them be a part of the economic growth of the country by introducing a month-long residential entrepreneur programme. Around 50 entrepreneurs have enrolled for the pilot programme out of which, 25 are Dalits and the rest from other communities.

New Delhi: The much awaited Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojna, a government initiative aimed at villages having a Scheduled Caste majority will commence its pilot project in at least three states of the country. It will aim at ‘converging’ various Central and state government schemes in order to ensure that a model village has adequate physical and institutional infrastructure.

Lucknow: At this time, when the discrimination against the Dalits is on rise and the social stigma forces them to keep away from the higher castes, there is a temple in Lucknow which truly holds the value of social equality. The temple located at Lakhna town in Etawah, 300 km from Lucknow have only Dalit priests.

New Delhi: The Central Government has decided to establish a special cell to address the issues faced by Dalit women. The cell being set up by the National Commission for Women (NCW) will fight for the rights of Dalit women in the society.
