Development Channel is the result of an effort to create a single window for all development news from India. This is conceived as a customized portal to carry news and information vital to the users to create awareness, disseminate information and improve their opportunities to attain development. It is aimed to become an important tool for citizens to gain access to opportunities arising in both public and private sectors, and enhance their capabilities in a competitive world. Through latest internet technologies and customization of the portal we are targeting to post 200 news stories daily, reaching out to twenty million beneficiaries within next two years.

The news that we carry may not have commercial values hence we are creating this as a not-for-profit project. The idea for this project is mooted by Mr Binoy Job, Chairman of “Television for Social Change Foundation” and founder of “Leaders for Tomorrow”. The idea behind this initiative is to create an alternative media and will not be carrying stories on inter-party and intra-party politics, Entertainment, Sports, Films, and Cricket etc as they are getting enough space in the mainstream media. Here you will not get to read sensational stories, gossips, rumours etc as we are focusing on stories that are affecting the lives of people, positive stories, stories that are useful to the reader, information that will empower the reader/viewer with knowledge. We are aiming at carrying stories about individual and institutional initiatives for public service, inspirational stories and stories about opportunities.

One of the most important reasons for the under development and poverty in India, is not the lack of resources, but lack of access to those resources.  It may be undisputable that in India much of the Government programmes and initiatives fail to reach its target population. An important reason for this is that people do not haven useful information at the right time. Even the information available in public domain is either outdated or too scattered for a common person to access. For developmental schemes to succeed, providing information and creating awareness is as important as provisioning of funds. The Development Channel aims to draw all the scattered information into one place and place it in a customized and user-friendly way.  This method, we believe, will greatly aid the users in availing the support of the government schemes, enhance their capabilities or explore new opportunities.
