Civic bodies in Indian capital has launched centres where subsidised lunches are offered.

Set up in association with NGOs that operate mid-day meal kitchens, the centres that are 9 feet by 5 feet in size offer meals for just Rs 10.

They will remain open between noon and 2 pm on all seven days.

While the North and South Corporations have said they will open such centres in every ward, the first six centres were launched in Okhla Mandi, Patiala Chowk, Green Park/AIIMS, Raghubir Nagar, Kakraula Mor in Najafgarh and in Shalimar Bagh.

The centres are formed along the lines of the popular Amma canteens in Tamil Nadu.

Funding for the scheme is still considered an issue as there are no provisions exist under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act for this. The corporations hope that they could raise revenue by giving operators advertisement rights in these areas.
