Karnataka government has will launch a scheme to provide free nutritious meal every day for pregnant and lactating women in rural areas.

The Matru Poorna Scheme, to be implemented through all anganwadis in the State from October 2, is to target women during their pregnancy and up to six months after delivery.

The meal, planned on the basis of the nutrition index, will have rice, dal or sambar, green vegetables, pulses, egg and groundnut-jaggery chikki.

Local anganwadis will take into consideration each beneficiary’s food preference, and availability of stipulated items while they prepare the meals, government officials said.
