Gujarat government will provide a daily assistance of Rs 7,000 — Rs 49,000 for seven days — for treatment of a newborn weighing less than 1.5 kg.

The state government will bear the cost of meals and shelter of the mothers of such underweight newborns.

With an aim to create “malnutrition-free Gujarat”, the scheme has not set any income ceiling for the beneficiaries.

The assistance under child welfare scheme will be given to private experts in the 79 high-priority talukas across the state.
