Over 30 crore new families have got Jan Dhan accounts and Rs 65,000 crore have been deposited, as the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana celebrates its third anniversary on Monday.
“Today, Jan Dhan Yojana completes 3 years. I congratulate the crores of people, particularly the poor, who benefited from this initiative,” Prime Minister Modi said.
The scheme was launched on 28th of August 2014 to to ensure access to financial services, such as Banking Savings and Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension for the common man.
“Through Jan Dhan Yojana, social security schemes, MUDRA & Stand-Up India, we have given wings to millions of aspirations,” Modi said.
The number of rural accounts opened under PMJDY has grown from 7.54 crore in January 2015 to 17.64 crore as of 16th Aug 2017, said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Zero balance accounts under PMJDY declined from 76.81 % in September 2014 to 21.41 % in August 2017, he added on a Facebook post.
“Within reach of the country is what might be called the 1 billion-1 billion-1 billion vision. That is 1 billion unique Aadhaar numbers linked to 1 billion bank accounts and 1 billion mobile phones,” Jaitley said.
“Once that is done, all of India can become part of the financial and digital mainstream,” he added.
